Job Description

A Financial Counselor will assist patients with cost estimates, and to collaborate with external parties to ensure their financial coverage. The Financial Counselor will explain financial information, determine prospective patients’ ability to pay, provide education on any assistance including Medicaid, and assist with the application process. This role will educate patients on their financial obligations to the facility, and follow up with patients and other parties to ensure accuracy and completeness of information.

To ensure success the candidate will need to be knowledgeable regarding payment options and processes, and have the ability to explain these to patients. Ideal candidates are customer-focused and have the ability to multitask with interruptions in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

Required: High School graduate or equivalent.

Preferred: Some college or technical training.

Experience:

Required: Hospital or similar medical facility experience.

Must be able to follow directions and to perform work according to department standards when no directions are given. Must be emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress. Computer literate with spreadsheet and word processing applications. Organized, efficient and detail oriented. The ability to use Windows-based system, fax, copier, and multi-line, multi-function phone.
