Job Description

Coding of diagnoses and procedures on all inpatient and/or outpatient accounts. Facilitates improvement in the overall quality of clinical documentation to ensure compliance and optimum reimbursement. Abstracts clinical information from medical records. Assigns appropriate ICD-10 codes, confirms appropriate optimal APC assignment.


Required - High School graduate or equivalent
Preferred - Associates degree in a health services discipline

Preferred - 1 year Hospital experience OP Coding
Required - Extensive working knowledge of the coding classification systems medial terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Must possess expert knowledge of medical terminology anatomy & physiology, and ICD-10 coding principles
Must possess ability to assess a record and make independent responsible decisions upholding policy & procedure
Requires extensive reading data entry & prolonged sitting, bending to collect, review and replace charts
Proficient in business office skills
Must possess ability to learn & perform all essential job functions accurately with minimal direct supervision within probationary period
Required - RHIT, RHIA, or CCS certification
