Job Description

MountainView Regional Medical Center, a 168-bed facility located in Las Cruces, N.M., is accredited by the Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO). The facility includes fully staffed 24-hour emergency care, a specialized Heart Center, Women's Center, Comprehensive Intensive Care Services and an All-Digital Imaging Department, plus Inpatient and Outpatient Surgical Services, Emergency Services, Inpatient Rehabilitation, Wound Care Center/Hyperbarics, Diagnostic and Imaging Services, Pain Management Center and an ADA Certified Diabetes Program.

The Emergency Department Unit Director is responsible for the direction, management and administration of the Unit. Maintains adherence to hospital policies, procedures and regulations.  Participates in an interdisciplinary and inter-facility approach to achieving the mission, philosophy and goals of CHS.
 
Must show potential ability for management of a Unit. Demonstrates skills in communication, conflict resolution and human relations.  Exhibits a team approach.  Knowledgeable of fiscal, general healthcare issues, trends, quality management and legal aspects of nursing practice and standards. Knowledge and understanding of the entire aging process.  Possess ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public. Able to follow directions and to perform work according to department standards when no directions are given. Requires good interpersonal skills and good communication skills, both verbal and written.  Ability to function effectively in fast-paced environment with multiple demands/deadlines. Position requires some overtime and ability to coordinate several activities simultaneously. Emotional maturity and ability to function effectively under stress. Able to read, write, follow instructions and document care given in English.  Ability to plan and organize. 


Qualifications

Education:       
1.  Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing       
2.  Current Licensure in professional nursing from the New Mexico State Board of Nursing.       
3.  Certification in specialty area of practice preferred.  BSN or healthcare related field preferred.         
Experience       
Three to Five years clinical nursing experience, BSN or healthcare related field preferred.

       
Licenses/Certificates       
       
1.  Required: Current professional nursing license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Mexico or compact       
2.  Required: Current BLS (Basic Life Support)       
3.  Required: Current ACLS  (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required - if not currently certified at the time of hire, must complete first course offered.       
4.  Required: Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) requried -  if not currently certified at the time of hire, must complete the first course offered.       
5.  Required: Current (Trauma Nurse Core Course) if not currently certified at the time of hire must take first available course offered.
